RSS Feed Support in Cablecast CG

Last Updated:June 4, 2026

Overview

Cablecast CG can use RSS feeds to bring dynamic content into your bulletin board, which reduces how often you need to update bulletins with fresh content. An RSS feed is one type of dynamic bulletin.

Common RSS feeds include content such as:

  • Local news

  • Weather alerts

  • Weather maps

  • Word of the day

  • Articles from web pages

Creating an RSS Bulletin

Select your zone and create a new bulletin, then select Dynamic and choose RSS. For the full walkthrough of creating a dynamic bulletin, see Creating Basic Dynamic Bulletins in Cablecast CG.

The New Bulletin screen with Dynamic selected in the left sidebar and the dynamic bulletin types shown as a grid of tiles, with the RSS tile outlined in red.

Content Compatibility

Cablecast CG can read plain text and basic HTML, and can display images within an RSS feed. It works best with the ATOM 1.0 web standard.

Limitations of RSS Feeds in Cablecast CG

Cablecast CG cannot display videos embedded in an RSS feed. If a feed includes a video file, that video won't display or play.

To play a video in a bulletin, upload the video file instead. Uploaded H.264 MP4 files have the best compatibility with Cablecast CG.

Summary

RSS feeds let Cablecast CG pull in regularly updated content — local news, weather, and more — as a dynamic bulletin, so you don't have to refresh the content by hand. Create one by selecting Dynamic and choosing RSS when making a new bulletin. Cablecast CG reads plain text, basic HTML, and images (it works best with ATOM 1.0), but can't play video embedded in a feed. Upload an H.264 MP4 for that instead.
